Calatrava, Isabela ready for dev’t, too

From the Visayan Daily Star (Mar 9): Calatrava, Isabela ready for dev’t, too

The municipalities of Calatrava and Isabela in Negros Occidental are set to be declared “peaceful and ready for further development.”

The simultaneous signing of their declarations will be done today by their officials with Col. Jon Aying, 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, in Calatrava as witness. His deputy, Col. Noel Buan, and Maria Lina Sanogal, Provincial Peace Integration and Development Unit action officer, will attend a similar activity in Isabela.

The 4th district of Negros Occidental, composed of two cities and four towns in central Negros, the municipality of Hinigaran and city of Cadiz were also declared as such earlier.

The absence of insurgency-related incidents for more than a decade, and positive indicators of improved delivery of basic social services, are among the parameters considered by the AFP for an area to qualify as “peaceful and ready for further development.”

Aying, who was promoted to brigadier general this month, said yesterday that the 3rd district of Negros Occidental, composed of the cities of Silay, Talisay and Victorias and the municipalities of EB Magalona and Murcia, is up for declaration as such, with the signing rites expected to be held this month.

Marañon, who hosted lunch for the party of former AFP chiefs of staff Generals Victor Ibrado and Alexander Yano, said they are trying their best to make the province peaceful so that more investors and progress will come.

The Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade hopes to declare the whole province of Negros Occidental as peaceful and ready for further development by the middle of this year.
