A New People's Army fighter was killed and three weapons seized Tuesday by government troops pursuing rebels who torched seven trucks and ambushed responding policemen in Bukidnon province during the weekend.
Major Christian Uy, 4th Infantry Division spokesman, said soldiers from the 10th Scout Ranger Company engaged NPA guerrillas in Sitio Kipolot, Barangay Palacapao in Quezon town around 2:25 a.m.
After a 30-minute firefight, the rebels retreated leaving their slain comrade as well as an AK-47 and two M16 rifles.
At 5:30 a.m., another clash broke out between when soldiers from the 43rd Division Reconnaissance Company and 10 rebels at Sitio Bagong Lipunan, Barangay Linabo, also in Quezon.
No casualties were reported in the five-minute gun battle.
