From InterAksyon (Jan 22): Security forces disarm bombs planted at foot of Basilan bridge
Government security forces disarmed two improvised bombs planted at the foot of a bridge in Isabela City, Basilan Wednesday night, a report reaching military headquarters in Camp Aguinaldo said.
The military suspect the Abu Sayyaf of planting the bombs on the wooden bridge spanning the national highway in Sitio Kaumpurnah, Barangay Zone 3, which were discovered by residents around 8 p.m.
The bombs were crafted from 60mm and 80mm mortar shells wired to a radio transceiver believed to be the triggering device and “placed inside blue plastic containers sealed with tape and protruding wires,” the report said.
The explosive devices were packed with 1-inch concrete nails, four bottles of “ANFO explosive mixtures” and booster explosives, it added.
