Trooper wounded in Iloilo clash feted

From the Philippine News Agency (Sep 21): Trooper wounded in Iloilo clash feted

The Capiz-based 3rd Infantry Division honored Saturday the 82nd Infantry Battalion trooper wounded during a clash with New People's Army (NPA) fighters in Sitio Cadinglian, Barangay Buloc, Tubungan town, Iloilo last Sept. 19.

Awarded with the Wounded Personnel Medal was Pfc. Ronald Apiladas.

The latter is now recuperating at the Western Visayas Medical Center.

Col. Erick Uchida, Panay Island military commander, said Apiladas was decorated to show the government's recognition of his valiant and patriotic service.

“It is fitting to recognize the gallantry of our soldier who risked his life in combat in defense of our democracy. Our soldiers who are wounded in action deserve to be given the best medical care,” he added.

Uchida said that Apilada’s acts of heroism and selflessness above and beyond the call of duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
