With Filipino soldiers playing a key role in the United Nations peacekeeping efforts, the Philippines will be deploying an all Navy contingent, numbering 157, to Haiti which is still recovering from the aftermath of massive earthquake which struck and crippled the country in 2010.

Navy public affairs office chief Lt. Cmdr. Marineth Domingo said that the send-off for the 18th Armed Forces of the Philippines Contingent to the United Nations Peace Keeping Force to Haiti will take place at Villamor Air Base, Pasay City around 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 22.

She added that AFP chief-of-staff Gen. Gregorio Pio P. Catapang will be the guest of honor and keynote speaker.

Domingo stated that the all Navy contingent will be tasked to provide perimeter security to the Force Headquarters of the UN Mission to Haiti, provide administrative and logistics clerical services to the Force Headquarters, operate their military vehicles.

Aside from these, the Filipino peacekeepers will also provide VIP security to specified personalities by the Force Headquarters.
