PAF says 'Sokol' manufacturer already informed of Marawi City crash

From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 9): PAF says 'Sokol' manufacturer already informed of Marawi City crash

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) on Saturday announced the manufacturers of its crashed W-3A "Sokol" combat utility helicopter has already been informed of the accident in Marawi City, Lanao Del Sur.

"Manufacturers were already notified through their local representative and they shall assist the PAF in the determination of the cause of the accident," Air Force spokesperson Lt. Col. Enrico Canaya said.

The PAF acquired eight units of the "Sokol" from Polish manufacturer PZL-Swidnik and British-Italian firm AugustaWestland for P2.8 billion.

One of the helicopters crashed a few minutes after taking off from Camp Ranao, Marawi City around 2: 23 p.m. Thursday.

Two people, one civilian and one crewmember, were hurt in the crash attributed to stiff headwinds.

Canaya said that the PAF is planning to move the crashed "Sokol" to a more secure location but stated that he has no information on when this will be done.

The PAF spokesperson declined to comment on whether the downed aircraft could still be repaired.

He added that seven remaining "Sokol" helicopters will remain grounded until the air crash investigation completed its report.
