BI ready to provide authorities information on supposed leader of Southeast Asian terror group JI

From the Philippine News Agency (Aug 9): BI ready to provide authorities information on supposed leader of Southeast Asian terror group JI

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) is ready to provide information to authorities on the supposed leader of Southeast Asian terror group Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) who is reportedly in the country.

In an interview, BI Commissioner Siegfred Mison said that they will give the travel information of Zulkifli bin Abdul Hir, alias Marwan, terrorist group once the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) request for it.

"We would provide all relevant data that we know about this person that would somehow be helpful in arresting him but we have not received any request yet," he said.

But, Mison noted that they can also ask authorities to know the identify of the person so that they can also check on it.

"We will check the date of arrival. All the info from the AFP or other requesting agency so we can help in the immediate arrest of these individuals," he added.

The BI chief said that they do not consider it as a problem but a challenge on how to track down these individuals.

"I would not say it’s a problem but it’s a challenge once they enter the country they will not report to the BI anymore unless they need to extend their stay or convert their visa and we rely on the records that they give us, example passport information, and the arrival card that is the only data that we have of them," he explained.

It was reported that the head of the JI group is in the country particularly in central Mindanao based on the information gathered by the intelligence community.
