From the Negros Daily Bulletin (Feb 1): NPA Surrenders to CAFGU Detachment Under 55IB

At about 1130pm Tuesday, January 29, 2013, a member of Local Communist Movement surrendered to the CAFGU Detachment of Alpha Company, 5IB under the operational control of the 55th Infantry Battalion, the Commanding Officer of the 55IB, LTC Rommel Almaria, reports.

Almaria stated that a certain Alex Dungog aka Ronald, 28, of SECCOM JOJI of Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee surrendered without firearm to a CAFGU Detachment at Tambulig, Zamboanga del Sur under the operational control of his battalion. Accordingly, the said NPA member is a resident of Brgy. Tabugon of same municipality and joined the Local Communist Movement sometime on October 2011, and he decided to go back to the folds of the law due to family reason and hardship living in the mountains.

The Commander of the 1st Infantry Division, MGen Ricardo Rainier Cruz III commended the Bayanihan Team and the local officials of Brgy. Tabugon of said municipality for the successful negotiations. He also gladly welcomed the decision of Alex Dungog to go back to his family and live a peaceful life. He further said that he expects more members of the NPA to abandon their armed struggle in the days to come due to the sincere efforts of soldiers and local government officials who are facilitating to bring peace and development to the countryside thru the Bayanihan Team Operations.

It can be recalled that an NPA member with firearms surrendered to a CAFGU Detachment under 55IB at Ozamis City last December 2012.
