Madaris teachers from Socsskargen undergo Capacity Enhancement Training

Posted to the MILF Website (Feb 1): Madaris teachers from Socsskargen undergo Capacity Enhancement Training

More than a hundred Madaris (plural for Madrasa) teachers from South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani and General Santos City attended a day-long Capacity Enhancement Training aimed to enrich their skills in teaching, managing classrooms and improve the grading system.

The activity, hosted by Ittihadul Madaris bil Philippines, Inc. on January 28, 2012 at Mahad Shar’i al-Islamie in Purok Camasi, Barangay Ligaya, General Santos City, was supported by the Bangsamoro Development Agency-Southern Mindanao Region (BDA-SouthMin), Tambilawan Halal-Certified Restaurant, some young professionals, and Islamic Care Association (ICA), Inc.

Most of the participants are handling kindergarten classes in Madaris which have availed the UNICEF’s Tahdeeriya Program.

The program assists in upgrading the kindergarten classes of 500 identified Madaris all over Mindanao through institutionalizing curriculum which meets the requirements of the Department of Education.

It further supports relevant trainings for the Madaris teachers and also brings other interventions such as vaccination, provision of educational supplies, and feeding of the pupils.

Ustadz Refae Antao, handled some topics on teaching methodologies. He underscored the importance of upgrading the teaching facilities like using multi-media presentation as visual aid for the preschoolers.

Veteran educator Sheikh Norden Husen discussed and elaborated classroom management and grading system. He is currently the Tarbiya Representative of the MILF Central Committee.

MILF Tarbiya Committee Chairman Sheikh Ahmad Duli shared some teaching strategies. He said Madaris teachers have big role to play, citing “education of the young ones will tell the future of our communities.”

The resource person who has devoted most of his adulthood to teaching urged the participants to sacrifice in educating the young Moros with profound Islamic knowledge.

He also recognized the newly installed set of officers of Tarbiya Committee in Sugoda Buayan Province.
Sheikh Abdulbayan Laguialam, Provincial Madaris Coordinator of Sarangani shared some insights on the role of Asatidz (plural for Ustadz) in moulding the youth. He said teachers, as secondary parents, have big role to play in producing productive Moro citizens in the future.

Ustadz Mohaliden Kudanding, the activity coordinator and Secretary of the Tarbiya Committee in Sugoda Buayan Province, thanked the supporters of the training.

He looks forward for the Officers and members of the Tarbiya Committee to undergo organizational development training to improve their group and capacitate them in holding activities geared towards intensifying Islamic education in the province which is the primary mandate of their group.

Kudanding said that little help from stakeholders when pooled together can make a meaningful outcome like the training. He added that the training is the initiative of the Tarbiya Committee.

BDA-SouthMin facilitated the resource mobilization for the snacks of the audiences and lunch of the resource persons and guests. ICA was in-charge for the venue and other logistic needs.

Having no huge budget for the training, the participants brought their own lunch packs.

Tahdeeriya program is being implemented by the BDA in collaboration with Tarbiya Committee.
