From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 14): Army’s 1st Infantry Division sends 3
truckloads of relief goods to Compostela Valley
The Army’s 1st Infantry Division has joined in the massive efforts to provide
humanitarian assistance and alleviate the plight of the victims of typhoon
"Pablo."
Maj. Gen. Ricardo Rainier Cruz, III, commander of the Army’s 1st Infantry
Division, said three truck loads of relief goods--food stuffs and clothing--were
dispatched to Composela Valley province Friday.
“We hope that these assistance would ease the suffering of the survivors.
This is a support from our troops to our kababayans,” Cruz said.
Cruz said the relief goods were gathered by his Assistant Chief of Staff for
Civil Military Operations Lt. Col. Randolf Sino Cruz from line units and various
stakeholders within the 1st Infantry Division area of responsibility.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said
death toll to typhoon "Pablo" continues to climb reaching 906 as of Friday
morning, with estimated damage of P15.1 billion.
Only 575 of the dead have been identified of which 848 were from Compostela
Valley. The number of missing persons also rose to 932.
