BAYAN: Filipinos cannot expect real change from US elections

Don’t expect any radical change in US foreign policy, whoever wins in the United States Presidential Elections, says the Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (New Patriotic Alliance). The Philippine umbrella group said that both US President Barack Obama and his rival Governor Mitt Romney share basically “the same oppressive foreign policy that has been rejected by the oppressed people’s of the world”. “Whoever wins tomorrow, we can be assured that the US troops permanently stationed in the Philippines, in violation of our Constitution, will remain in the Philippines. We can be assured that the US will continue the lopsided Visiting Forces Agreement. We can be assured that the US military pivot towards Asia will push through,” said Bayan secretary general Renato M. Reyes, Jr. “Whoever wins in the polls, the Filipino people must continue to assert their sovereignty against US economic and military impositions. At the same time, Filipinos also extend their solidarity with the American people who are struggling for genuine change,” Reyes said....
