3 soldiers killed, 1missing in Davao ambush

From the Philippine Star (Nov 5): 3 soldiers killed, 1missing in Davao ambush

Three soldiers were killed while another was missing after they were ambushed by a group of communist rebels in Davao City, the military said on Monday. Col. Lyndon Panisa, the Army's 10th Infantry Battalion spokesperson, said four of their soldiers were on their way back to camp after they bought supplies market in Brgy. Mapula, Pakibato District, Davao City when they were ambushed around 5 p.m. in Sitio Singko. "Wala pong mga armas ito at naka civilian," the military officer told a radio interview. He added that the four opted to leave their weapons, thinking that they would not be attacked because of the Comprehensive Agreement on Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law. Panisa said the village officials who responded to the scene and recovered the bodies told the military later that there were about 10 gunmen who ambushed the government troops. He said that the members of the Ulang Bagani Command 1, a local communist rebel organization in the area, were responsible for the ambush. "Ngayon conduct tayo pursuit operations kasi hawak pa nila iyong isang sundalo natin... Naghahain din tayo ng violation nila sa CAHRIHL," he added.
