): Soldier's missing body found near Davao City ambush site
The body of the missing soldier ambushed by suspected communist rebels in Davao City Sunday was found near the place where he and three other companions were waylaid, the military said on Monday. Quoting a report from 10th Infantry Division, Army spokesman Col. Harold Cabunoc said the body of Pvt. Marcelo Himaya, who is said to be missing earlier, was found in a nearby area and believed to be summarily executed. Cabunoc also identified Himaya's companions who were killed during the ambush as Pfc. Ahian Vir Dolero , Pfc. Marvin Lauronal, and Pfc. Noel Sigan. The four were members of the 60th Infantry Battalion’s Peace and Development Team. Reports showed that at least 10 members of New People’s Army in Sitio Cinco, Brgy. Mapula, Paquibato District, Davao City around 5:30 p.m. opened fire at four, who were said to be on board three motorcycles, on civilian attire and unarmed. "They were on their way back to their detachment...when the incident happened", 10th Infantry Battalion spokesperson Lt. Col. Lyndon Paniza said. Paniza said troops are now on hot pursuit operations to apprehend the perpetrators.
