Some 190 families were displaced after government forces and elements of the New People’s Army (NPA) clashed in the boundaries of three barangays in San Isidro town, here recently.
Reports reaching the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) showed 73 families were affected in Barangay Pinamuno, 42 in Barangay Datu Balong and 75 in Barangay Monte Dujali and were evacuated since Thursday to their respective barangay halls. Elements of the 60th Infantry Battalion responded to reports that more than 300 NPA rebels were spotted at Barangay Monte Dujali conducting checkpoints and dialogue with residents in the area. A firefight ensued when government troops went to check on their presence. One Army soldier was wounded during the exchange of fire. As of Monday afternoon, the residents refused to return their homes.
