Posted to the Sun Star-Zamboanga (Sep 23): Hunt for Sayyaf leader starts
Police operations against the Abu Sayyaf leader who was injured but escaped a government raid was launched Saturday. Khair Mundos managed to escape when the government troops overran the Abu Sayyaf bandits’ training camp in Sitio Dulian, Calabasa village, 55 kilometers east of Zamboanga City on Thursday. The government raid resulted in the death of four Abu Sayyaf members and a bandit's wife, and wounding of four other people, including Mundos. One of the four slain bandits was Termije Ajijul, a right hand of Mundos. Ajijul’s wife, Sitti Raja Salvin, was also killed.

Mundos’s May 2004 arrest on the first-ever money laundering charges against terrorists grew out of an investigation initiated by the USG in coordination with Philippine officials. While in police custody, Mundos confessed to having arranged the transfer of funds from al-Qa’ida to Abu Sayyaf Group leader Khadaffy Janjalani to be used in bombings and other criminal acts throughout Mindanao. In February 2007, Mundos escaped from a Kidapawan Provincial Jail.
