GOVERNMENT troops have seized a bomb-making lair of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Maguindanao del Sur, military officials said Friday, July 14, 2023.
Major General Alex Rillera, Joint Task Force (JTF)-Central commander, said the lair was seized Thursday, July 13, in Salman village, Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur.
Rillera said the troops of the 40th Infantry Battalion were conducting combat operations when they discovered a lair of the BIFF.
He said the lair has seven bunkers that could accommodate 10 persons each.
Recovered from the lair were assorted war materials, including bomb-making components, one magazine assembly with 20 rounds ammunition for an M16 rifle, one bandolier, and one bullet pouch.
Also recovered from the lair were assorted personal belongings, construction materials, and cooking utensils.
“The lair belongs to the local terrorist group in the area,” Rillera said referring to the BIFF, adding: “it has been abandoned for a day.”
Meanwhile, Lieutenant General Roy Galido, commander of Western Mindanao Command, commended the JTF-Central troops for this accomplishment.
“Rest assured that we will continue to intensify our decisive military operations to prevent the re-emergence of the different threat groups in our area of operation,” Galido said. (SunStar Zamboanga)
