CAMP MELCHOR F. DELA CRUZ, Upi, Gamu, Isabela: The Armed Forces of the Philippines Northern Luzon Command (Nolcom) has awarded two wounded-in-action soldiers, the 5th Infantry Division (5ID) here said on Monday. 

During his visit to the 5ID here, Maj. Gen. Fernyl Buca, Nolcom commander, led the awarding of the Wounded Personnel Medal to Sgt. Wilme Arce and Sgt. Marlon Layron. Buca recognized Arce and Layron for their gallantry during the 40-minute armed encounter against the terrorist group in Barangay Tanglagan in Gattaran town, Cagayan on March 18. 

Arce and Layron were wounded but are now in stable condition, according to Maj. Rigor Pamittan, 5ID Public Affairs Office chief. 

Pamittan said Buca also acknowledged the sacrifices of the troops, especially those on the frontline who are ready to sacrifice to protect the people against the atrocities of the communist terrorist group. 

Uplifting the morale of the soldiers operating on the ground, Buca said the Nolcom will continue to give its full support to end the local communist armed conflict and for the success of the campaign against insurgency not just in Cagayan Valley and Cordillera but in Northern Luzon.
