South Cotabato – On March 16, 2023, the 5th Special Forces “Primus Inter Pares” Battalion under the operational control of 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade together with 61st Division Reconnaissance Company recovered CTG war materiel after an armed encounter at Sitio Datal Kadi, Brgy Tasiman, Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.

At around 7:45am, during the conduct of Focused Military Operations, the operating troops of 5th Special Forces Battalion encountered around 15 members of the Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) led by “Magaw”, Front Secretary, Guerilla Front Musa, Far Southern Mindanao Region (FSMR) and “Tamton”, Commanding Officer, Front Operational Command, Guerilla Front Musa, FSMR. Among the recovered items were one (1) 40mm Grenade Launcher, 158 rounds of 7.62mm (linked), and other war and medical materials.

The recovery of war and medical materials would significantly affect the capacity of the CTGs to sustain their operational activities and efforts towards recovery, hence, the unit continues to urge the remaining CTG members to surrender and return to the folds of the law, where they can take advantage of both local and national government programs through the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).

The 5th Special Forces Battalion (Airborne) will continue to keep the peace in the province of South Cotabato and ensure that public trust is prioritized in carrying out the unit’s mission.
