Posted to Kalinaw News (Jan 18, 2022): Tired and weary terrorists yield to gov’t troops in Aurora

Combined elements of the 91st Infantry Battalion of the Joint Task Force Kaugnay together with some troops of the Joint Task Force Tala, and the Baler Municipal Police Station facilitated the surrender of one “tired and weary” rebel at Brgy Calabuanan, Baler, Aurora on the evening of Jan. 17, 2022.

In a statement, Maj. Gen. Andrew Costelo, Northern Luzon Command’s (NoLCom) Acting Commander identified the surrendered personality as Berboy Calara Aviendo, alias JR/Oscar/Joey, a 37-year-old resident of Brgy Matawe, Dingalan, Aurora, and a member of the already dismantled Communist guerilla front, Kilusang Larangang Gerilya- Sierra Madre.

Lt. Col. Reandrew Rubio, Commanding Officer of 91IB submitted a report saying that Aviendo has been under the watch of the government since he was listed in the Periodic Status Report (PSR) for 2021. He is now under the custody of JTF Kaugnay’s 91IB for custodial debriefing.

During the initial debriefing, Alviendo exposed the hardships he experienced being under the Communist terrorist group, feeling hungry, exhausted, and fearful for his life as the government troops launch campaign offensives against the Communist insurgency.

“Our unit’s relentless counterinsurgency efforts are tangible proofs of the nearing decimation of the remnant of these Communist terrorist groups,” said Col Joseph Norwin Pasamonte, Commander of 703rd Infantry Brigade as he lauds the commendable accomplishment of troops.

Meanwhile, Commander of JTF Kaugnay and NoLCom’s Acting Commander Maj. Gen. Costelo encourages all other Communist terrorist remnants to abandon their armed struggle and avail the programs of the government for a chance to start anew.

“We are paving the way for the much-coveted lasting peace, prosperity, and development in our communities. We will be relentless with our offensives until we can call North and Central Luzon ‘Insurgency-free’,” furthered Maj. Gen. Costelo.
