GUIHULNGAN CITY, NEGROS ORIENTAL – In response to the information given from the concerned civilian, the Army’s 62nd Infantry “Unifier” Battalion launched an operation and encountered more or less 12 CTG members of Central Negros 1, Komiteng Rehiyon – Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Siquijor (KR-NCBS) at Sitio Manlibod, Brgy Sandayao, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental yesterday, January 15, 2022.

LTC Flores visited, inspected, and distributed financial assistance and medicines to all 24 CAA Patrol Bases to assess the damages of Typhoon Odette. While in Imelda Patrol Base and Sandayao Patrol Base, a concerned civilian gave information to the Army that there is an armed group in Brgy Sandayao purposely to conduct extortion to the residents thereat and to hinder the LGUs support to the typhoon-affected areas. Immediately, LTC Flores launched an operation to verify the information that led to the firefight. The gunbattle lasted for five (5) minutes which resulted in one (1) enemy being killed (body count) and captured of four (4) CTG members (2 wounded) on the enemy side, recovery of one (1) KG9 with one (1) steel magazine containing 23 live ammunition, one (1) .45 cal. pistol, one (1) backpack, several ammunition, and other CTG terror documents. After which, the enemy withdrew towards the northwest direction of Brgy. Sandayao left their wounded and killed comrades at the encounter site.

The 2 wounded enemies were immediately transported to the Guihulngan City District Hospital for proper medication, 1 minor was turned over to DSWD, while the cadaver was handed over to Guihulngan City Police Station for proper disposition.LTC Melvin N Flores, Commanding Officer, 62IB said, “No one can hinder good deeds and intentions. As a leader, it is my duty to look over the morale and welfare of my men and personally assess the actual situation on the ground wherever it may be. I appreciated the information given by the residents of Brgy Sandayao. It is a clear manifestation that the Guihulnganons condemn the presence of the armed group in their area. I also condemn the NPA’s consistent use and exploitation of minors which is a blatant violation of the International Humanitarian Law (IHL).”
