BACOLOD City – Five criminal charges were filed against a captured suspected New People’s Army (NPA) leader and two others, according to the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office (NOCPPO).Complaints for violation of Republic Act (RA) 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and RA 9516 (illegal possession and manufacture of explosives) were filed against Nilda Bertulano, Ronel Bordago and Joebel Mabayag, said Police Lieutenant Abegael Donasco, NOCPPO spokesperson.
Bertulano was a suspected secretary for the NPA’s South West Front in Negros.
The three were captured in a gun battle in Sitio Balik-balik, Barangay Tabu, Ilog town on Sept. 14.
Authorities recovered several firearms and explosives at the encounter site.
The clash also resulted in the death of four suspected NPA insurgents.
