A New People’s Army member surrendered and turned two rifle grenades over to authorities in San Jose town, Tarlac province, the Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) said Sunday, Sept. 19.

Tarlac police director Col. Renante Cabico
identified the man only as “Ka Renz” or “Ka Mandy,” 47, a resident of San Jose.

In a statement, PRO3 director Brig. Gen. Valeriano De Leon said the former rebel had surrendered to avail himself of the benefits for returnees under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.

The benefits for a rebel-returnee include some P186,000 in cash and livelihood assistance, payment for the surrendered firearms, and housing, legal, medical, educational, and related assistance.
