Maco, Davao de Oro – Nineteen (19) former rebels (FRs) undergoes de-radicalization process at Balai Pag-Asa, Headquarters, 1001st Infantry “PAG-ASA” Brigade, Brgy Mapaang, Maco, Davao de Oro starting July 26, 2021.

The opening ceremony was conducted at the said facility at around 10 o’clock in the morning and was graced by Major General Ernesto C Torres Jr PA, Commander of the 10th Infantry Division (10ID), Reverend Father Emerson Luego, Parish Priest of Sto Nino Parish, Mabini and Honorable Maria Carmen S Zamora, Vice Governor of Davao de Oro.

In his welcome remarks, Brigadier General Luis Rex D Bergante stressed the nitty gritty of the program as it prepares the former rebels for their reintegration to the mainstream society. He further expressed his gratitude to the former rebels for choosing to live in peace together with their respective families.

In his message, Major General Torres acknowledged the efforts of the Province of Davao de Oro in its implementation of the Whole of Nation Approach to End the Local Communist Armed Conflict. He further acknowledged and is thankful on the decision of the former rebels in returning to the folds of the law and to live normal lives. He further expressed his gratitude to the partners and stakeholders of the 10ID in addressing the needs of the FRs. “Sa atong mga partners, daghan kaayong salamat sa inyong makanunayong pakigkuyog alang sa kalinaw ug kalambuan diri sa atong dapit ug sa inyong pagsuporta sa atong programa para matagaan ug bag-ong tyansa sa kinabuhi ang atong mga igsoon nga mga former rebels nga nailad sa komunistang grupo,” Torres said.

Meanwhile, Honorable Maria Carmen S Zamora, Provincial Vice-Governor of Davao de Oro thanked the FRs for taking the first step towards peace and development. “Nasayod ako nga dili sayon nga proseso ang DERAD alang kaninyo,apang kaning unang adlaw mao kini ang unang tikang nga inyong gihimo. Diri palang daan sa unang lakang nga inyong gihimo, magmadaugon kitang tanan” Zamora said.

De-Radicalization is part of the processes of the Enhanced Comprehensive Integration Program (ECLIP) in order to prepare the former members of the CTGs for their reintegration to the mainstream society. The program normally lasts for ten (10) days, wherein, Maoist-Leninist-Marxist teachings, theories and ideologies taught to them while they were still with the armed movement will be reversed. While they are still at the facility, livelihood trainings as well as spiritual enlightenment will also be introduced to them.
