From commander of the 79th Infantry Battalion in Negros to commanding officer of the 82nd Infantry Battalion in Cebu.

For carrying out the mission of the 79IB with utmost precision and efficiency, Maj. Gen. Eric Vinuya, 3rd Infantry Division commander, said yesterday that he has designated Lt. Col. Gerard Alvaran as commander of the 82nd Infantry Battalion in Cebu.

Alvaran yesterday relinquished the command of the 79IB to Lt. Col. J-Jay Javines, after he took over the 82IB command two days ago in Cebu.

Vinuya said that he has seen the determination and indomitable spirit of Alvaran to sustain the fight and finish the “evil reign” of the New People’s Army, particularly the Northern Negros Front.

“It is for the reason that your services are badly needed elsewhere,” he told Alvaran, noting that the latter has proven these quite well in northern Negros. Vinuya advised Alvaran to prepare to go the extra mile for his new assignment at 82IB.*
