A new Commander of the 79th Infantry Battalion (79IB) in Barangay Bato, Sagay City, Negros Occidental was instated on May 28.

Major Major general Eric Vinoya of the 3ID installed the new Commander Lieutenant Colonel J-Jay Javines, who took over the position from Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Alvaran.

Alvaran on the other hand, will be leading the 82IB, in Lanao del Sur.


In his message during the ceremony, Vinoya acknowledged the contribution of Alvaran in maintaining peace in Negros Occidental.

He also challenged Javines to continue what his predecessor started.

“The expectations I have for you are as high as my regard for your skills and abilities. Do not let us down, continue our unfinished tasked here in this particular area. Sustain our gains and ensure that our communities within your area of operation will be completely insulated from the recovery efforts of the communist terrorists-New People’s Army. We cannot afford to lose the things that we have achieved and gained here in Northern Negros,”Vinoya said.

Alvaran thanked the troopers, the stakeholders and the Commander of the 3ID for their unwavering support during his stint as commanding officer of the battalion.

Javines also expressed his gratitude for the trust and confidence given to him by Vinoya, and vowed to fulfill the task given to him.

“Our efforts shall always be geared towards achieving our mission, while maintaining the moral and welfare of our troops, at its best. Let our mantra be — mission accomplishment first and moral and welfare always”, Javines said.

The new 79IB commander emphasized on a more collaborative and participative approach to end insurgency in their Area of Responsibility (AOR).

He assured stakeholders that his troopers will always be a responsive and reliable partner in pursuit of genuine peace and equitable development in Northern Negros.
