CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Upi, Gamu, Isabela – 7 members of terrorist CPP-NPA returned to the fold of the law and surrendered war materials in Cagayan Province on April 27, 2021.

The 17th Infantry Battalion (17IB) orchestrated the negotiation that resulted to the surrender of 7 NPA members of the Platoon Bravo of West Front Committee, Komiteng Probinsya-Cagayan (KOMPROB-CAGAYAN), in Zinundungan Valley, boundary of Rizal, and Sto Niño, Cagayan.

They have surrendered one M16 rifle, two home-made shotguns, one cal.38, ammunitions, one hand grenade, three rifle grenades, terrorist NPA flag, and subversive documents.

According to the former rebels, they have experienced difficulties as members of the terrorist CPP-NPA. They have also longed to be back with their families, live in peace and away from threat of terrorist CPP-NPA.

Lt. Col. Angelo C Saguiguit, Commander, 17th Infantry Battalion thanked the former rebels for returning to the fold of law and trusting the government in their desire to start anew.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen Laurence E Mina, Commander, 5th Infantry Division, commended the 17IB Startroopers for their continuous effort to end the insurgency in their Area of Operations. “With the successive surrender of NPA members, strong support of the populace and the convergence of effort of government agencies, we are confident that the fight against the insurgency will surely succeed. We will soon realize our aspiration of achieving the peace and progress that we all deserve.”
