MARAWI CITY, Mar. 29 (PIA)--A total of 51 youth from the different municipalities of Lanao del Sur graduated from the first Ranaw Youth Peace and Leadership Summit (RYPLS) spearheaded by the 103rd Infantry (Haribon) Brigade and the provincial government of Lanao del Sur.

The participants came from Marawi City, Ganassi, Bacolod, Binidayan, Butig, Marantao, Sultan Dumalondong, Maguing, Madamba, Lumbatan, Tugaya, Poona-Bayabao, Pagayawan, Malabang, Wao, Piagapo, Tamaparan, Madalum, Saguiaran, and Bubong, among others.

Abdul Raffy Casan, a youth leader and peace advocate from Lumbatan town shared that a leader needs to continue learning.

"If you want to know how to lead, you have to learn more and more. Learning is a continuing process," he said.

Casan also said they will be reechoing the learnings they acquired to their fellow youth in their community.

"We believe that we have to educate them. If they are not informed well, there is a tendency na sasali sila sa kung anong organisasyon [that they will join in other organizations]," he added.

The young public servant also urged his fellow youth to remain inspired and determined in implementing their advocacies.

"Maging inspired lang at determinado [We should be inspired and determined]. We have to be determined in certain things that we are going to impose," he said.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Sokur Panondiongan, a youth leader from Bacolod Kalawi, said that he learned the values of discipline, cooperation, and unity from the summit.

The 7-day summit, according to him, is a good avenue for the youth to help them grow.

"Ang pagtitipon na ito ay sobrang laki ng tulong dahil ito ay naglalayon na payabungin ang mga naumpisahan ng unang kabataan na ngayon ay nagpapatuloy ng legasiyang minimithi natin," he said.

[This gathering is a big help because it aims to thrive the legacy that the youth have started.]

Emphasizing the great role of the youth in nation-building, Panondiongan called on the youth to participate in peace programs.

"Huwag kayong susuko na magparticipate sa kahit na anong programa. Huwag susuko na maging mabuting kabataan at magcontribute sa bayan," he added

[Do not give up on participating in any program. Don't give up to be a good youth and contribute to the country.]

The youth participants underwent different lectures and activities such as tree planting and cultural night.

The activity was supported by the Philippine National Police, Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, Plan international, US AID, Save the Children, United Nations Development Programme, Philippine Red Cross, National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, Japan Fund for Poverty Reduction, Department of Public Works and Highways, Youth Leadership Summit, Alumni of Lanao del Sur, and other partner stakeholders.
