Kalinaw News: Troops seize ASG encampment in Patiku

From Kalinaw News (Mar 8, 2021): Troops seize ASG encampment in Patikul

March 08, 2021, Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Jolo, Sulu – Last Saturday, 11th Infantry Division’s 45th Infantry Battalion (45IB) seized an Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) encampment at Brgy Tanum, Patikul, Sulu.

According to 45IB Commander Maj Vicente B Mabborang, 1LT Mer Jeunesse B Juatchon conducted clearing operation at Sitio Pantay Minul, Brgy Tanum, Patikul after a tip-off from a concerned resident of mentioned barangay. “One resident who harvested coconut told my men that he has seen armed men resting about a kilometer from the road. 1Lt Juatchon immediately proceeded to the area and arrived there around 12:30pm. Based on what was left at the encampment, we believe that the enemy had just left the area around 12nn.”

On a report submitted by the 1102nd Infantry Brigade led by Col Benjamin G Batara Jr., troops recovered sachets of coffee and condiments, some vegetables, clothing, rain boots, and laminated sacks. Col Batara noted that the encampment can accommodate up to 20 ASG members.

“We are aiming to end the Abu Sayyaf Group the soonest time possible. The support of our locals is critical in doing so. Last month, we also found three ASG encampments in Patikul. We mark these encampments on our maps for planning purposes. Definitely, their movement will be more constricted.” – MGen Gonzales
