Five suspected members of the Abu Sayyaf Group were killed while two soldiers were injured during an encounter in Patikul, Sulu last July 6.

Information from the Western Mindanao Command on Wednesday stated that troops from the Joint Task Force Sulu had a firefight with more or less 40 Abu Sayyaf members at Sitio Libug Wani in Barangay Bakung at 3:55 p.m. of Monday.

The encounter lasted for about 30 minutes, according to WestMinCom spokesman Major Arvin Encinas.

Minutes later, another 30-minute firefight happened between soldiers and more or less 30 local terrorists at Sitio Lumbaan, Barangay Buhanginan.

Encinas identified the two injured soldiers as Staff Sergeant Ramonito Diapolet and Corporal Maynard Cabote.

He said there was also an undetermined number of local terrorists who were injured in the incident. The bodies of the killed Abu Sayyaf were not recovered by the troops.
