TAGO, Surigao del Sur, March 09 – The army’s 36th Infantry “Valor” Battalion had intensified its security awareness against the Communist NPA Terrorist (CNT) to the locals, schools, and communities in its area of operation in the province of Surigao del Sur
From January 2020, a total of 16 security awareness symposiums had conducted by the unit with a total of estimated 5,000 participants and attendees. Six (6) awareness symposiums were conducted at barangays and ten (10) awareness symposiums were conducted at schools.
The activity aims to heighten the awareness of the community and the students on the deceptive recruitment strategies and propaganda of the Communist NPA Terrorist. During the activity, the unit also exposed the CNT deceptive strategy of step by step process of community organizing or the Barrio Module.
Meanwhile, the CPP-NPA-NDF through their legal front is still resilient in their deceptive recruitment in schools and communities to advance their futile cause using political, socio and economic issues of the government. Countless minors and students have been killed in an encounter because of joining the communist movement.
It can be recalled that a minor NPA combatant was killed in an encounter with the troops of 36IB at Bgy Cancavan, Carmen last March 2019. A 16-minor NPA combatant was also killed in an encounter with the troops of 23IB in Butuan City last November 30, 2020.
In a statement, Lt Col Jezreel Diagmel, Acting Battalion Commander of 36IB said that the unit will continue its information and education campaign against the deceptive recruitment strategies of Communist NPA terrorists.
“We will intensify our efforts in enlightening our youth and communities for them to became conflict-resilient on the recruitment of the CNT and promote peace in their community. They will be productive and discipline members of the society towards peace and development” Lt Col Diagmel added. Community awareness was conducted to barangay of Balibadon, Tuburan, Manlico, Capandan, Mabahin all of Cortes and Brgy Sagbayan of San Miguel, SDS. School awareness symposiums were conducted at Felisberto Verano National High school, Cortes Academy School, Tigao National High School, Matho National High School, Burgos National High School, all of Cortes SDS, Saint Theresa Criminology in Tandag City, Carmen Integrated School, Esperanza National High School in Carmen, SDS, SDSSU SNAS, and Magroyong National High School, all of San Miguel, SDS.
