With its silver medal finish in the Exercise Cambrian Patrol 2019 in Wales, United Kingdom, the Philippine Army (PA) is on its way to become world-class.

"We can see that with the good training, good support, the PA is now up to par with other armies," Army commander, Lt. Gen. Macairog Alberto, said in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on Monday on the sidelines of the recognition ceremony for the eight Scout Rangers who participated in the maneuver last October 14-16.

Alberto said the troops have shown skills that are at par with the standards of foreign armies.

"Nakita natin na itong mga kasundaluhan natin, nakita na nila standard ng ibang country. They are inspired to reach up to that level ng ibang countries. And in fact, nalagpasan na nga natin 'yung ibang countries because 'yung pinakitang galing ng ating mga kasundaluhan na kung ganito ang best natin, we can be one of the best (The team we sent to the exercises saw the standards of other countries. They are inspired to reach the level of other countries. In fact, we've surpassed some of them with our team's stellar performance. We can be one of the best)," he said.

Alberto said the training that Scout Rangers have undergone should be replicated in all units of the Army.

"We have to bring this kind of training to all our units – (in terms of) competency, skills, strength. But the skills learned from the exercises should be replicated and taught to other units of the Philippine Army," he said in Filipino.

"We sent our best, the Scout Ranger team, but other members of the Philippine Army should also reach up to the standards of a Scout Ranger," he added.

Army spokesperson, Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala, earlier said the Army’s eight-man team performed various military operations along the rugged Cambrian Mountains of Mid-Wales, with loads of logistics and minimal food and water.

Exercise Cambrian Patrol is an annual international military exercise hosted by Headquarters 160th (Welsh) Brigade. This year, some 130 teams from different countries participated in the exercise.

It is tagged as the British Army’s premier patrolling event that provides mission-focused and scenario-based exercise that would enhance each participating unit’s operational capabilities.
