Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas, Central Visayas regional police director, reported last night that three suspected NPA rebels were also intercepted and arrested during pursuit operations.
Sinas disclosed that the 10 minutes of armed skirmishes ensued after combined operating troops of the 15th Infantry Battalion, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 striking force, Special Action Battalion 6, 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company managed to penetrate the rebel camp undetected.
But Sinas said the occupants managed to escape towards the south direction of the rebel camp, leaving behind five IEDs (Improvised Explosives Devices), 1 and ¾ kilos of IED materials and components, 209 blasting caps, 175.5 inches of detonation cords, six assorted guns, 4,376 cuts of iron bars, 11 batteries, 25 switches, among other materials for making explosives, as well as 75 rounds of assorted ammunition.
Operating troops of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company also arrested Roberto Tingson, 34, and Jory Mate, 38, who are suspected to be members of the NPA Yunit Militia and a certain Amado, who was identified as one of the manufacturers of IEDs, he added.
Aside from Tingson and Mate, two other residents in the sitio were also invited for questioning by the operating troops, Sinas also said.
He also reported that the arrested suspects were brought to the Sipalay City Police Station for processing and filing of appropriate charges in court.
No casualty was reported on the government side during the encounter.*
