A suspected New People’s Army hitman was captured in Toboso, while a laborer accused of being a member of the NPA was shot and injured in Escalante City, Negros Occidental, Friday.

Patrolling military and police troopers captured on Friday the suspected NPA assassin during joint combat operations in Sitio Aglolomot, Brgy. San Jose, Toboso, Negros Occidental.

Nabbed was Edilberto Sangga, 36, of the place, whose apprehension also yielded a hand grenade, a Colt MK IV .45 caliber pistol with three magazines loaded with 26 ammunition, a gun holster and a small bag.

In his report to Col. Romeo Baleros, Negros Occidental police director, Maj. Joery Puerto, Toboso police chief, said that while they were conducting combat operations, the 79th Infantry Battalion and the 3rd Platoon of the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company chanced upon the group of eight armed members of the NPA.

The NPA members scampered in different directions where they noticed the presence of government forces.

Puerto said that they were able to intercept Sangga while conducting blocking operations, in pursuit of the fleeing rebels.

Sangga was linked to the killings and liquidation activities of the NPA Special Partisan Unit (SPARU) operations in Toboso, according to the police.

Meanwhile, a laborer identified as Felipe Dacaldacal, 61, accused of being a member of the NPA, was injured also on Friday after he was shot by a certain alias Astro in Sitio Bernesan, Brgy. Pinapugasan, Escalante City.

Police investigation showed that Dacaldacal was having dinner in his residence, when the suspect arrived, and confronted him of being an alleged NPA member.

Despite his vehement denial, Dacaldacal was shot several times by the suspect. But he survived the attempt on his life,and is now being treated for his injuries at a hospital in Bacolod City.
