Posted to the Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) Website (May 28, 2019): WestMinCom takes part in the 121st National Flag Day
As the country commemorates the 121st National Flag Day, the Western Mindanao Command participated in the simultaneous Flag raising ceremony held all over the Philippines at 8am today, May 28.
The activity held at the headquarters of the Command was attended by the officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees of WestMinCom.
The commemoration of the national flag starts today until the Independence Day on June 12. It also called on officials and residents to display the Philippine flag distinctly during the period.
The declaration of the 15-day National Flag Days is contained in Republic Act 8491 or the “Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines” and House Bill 5224 which were approved by Congress. It is also declared in Executive Order 179 issued by President Fidel V. Ramos.
The Flag Day is being celebrated to pay tribute to the first raising and waving of the Philippine Flag in Imus, Cavite on May 28, 1898, after the hard-fought encounter of the revolutionaries under General Emilio F. Aguinaldo against the Spanish force prior to the proclamation of the Philippine Independence on June 12, 1898.
