A Basilan-based Abu Sayyaf Group member yielded to the troops of the 6th Special Forces Battalion under Lieutenant Colonel Diosdado Carlos Pambid at 9am yesterday, May 1.
Omar S. Mustamud a.k.a Abu Kompor, a resident of Barangay Parang Basak, Lamitan, Basilan and operated under ASG Sub Leader Khair Mundos, also turned over his M16A1 to the troops at the 6SFBn Headquarters, Barangay Buhanginan, Patikul, Sulu.
Mustamud was then presented to 1102nd Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Peter Angelo Ramos, prior his medical check-up and custodial debriefing at the Kuta Heneral Teodulfo Bautista Station Hospital.
“The Western Mindanao Command continuously provide support programs to those who have decided to return to the folds of the law,” said Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega, commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
“We are also exerting effort in reaching out those who are having second thoughts to surrender,” LtGen Dela Vega added.
