WESTMINCOM: Army troops facilitate rido settlement in Maguindanao

Posted to the Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) Website (May 10, 2019): Army troops facilitate rido settlement in Maguindanao

The Philippine Army’s 40th Infantry Battalion led by Lieutenant Colonel Rogelio Gabi and in coordination with Toks Upam of the MILF-Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities, facilitated the rido settlement of feuding families from Sitio Wata, Barangay Tabungao, Rajah Buayan, Maguindanao on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

Involved were the families of Zyn Kabalo and Yacob Salidatan, the Battalion Commander and Deputy Brigade Commander of the 106th Based Command of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

The settlement was held at the 40IB Headquarters in Barangay Zapakan, same municipality.

The rido erupted after a relative of one of the feuding clans was killed in December, 2018.

The military and MILF intervened to prevent the dispute from escalating, that could result to more bloodshed.

Joint Task Force Central Commander Major General Cirilito E. Sobejana is thankful for the sincerity of the warring groups to settle their differences in a peaceful manner.

“I would like to commend the efforts of the 40IB troopers and the MILF-CCCH for facilitating the rido settlement,” said Lieutenant General Arnel B. Dela Vega, commander of the Western Mindanao Command.

“Rest assured that we will continue to maintain an active stance on resolving vertical and horizontal conflicts within the WestMinCom Joint Area of Operations in order for everybody to have a chance to live in harmony and prosperity,” LtGen Dela Vega added.
