CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao – Government troops of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion have safely recovered three Anti-Personnel Mines in So. Kabanalian, Brgy Ilian, Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat on May 7, 2019 at around 3 o’clock in the afternoon.
The operations is in response to the information relayed by a concerned citizen in the area regarding the suspected Anti-Personnel Mines hidden in an abandoned “nipa” hut.
The responding troops of 21st Mechanized Company, 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion, while scouring the area, recovered three Anti-Personnel Mines weighing 29 kgs each.
The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (EODT) was immediately called to render safe procedures for the immediate disposal of the explosives.
“The successful recovery of the Anti-Personnel Mines is attributed to the vigilance of the local residents in the area, who continuously support the unit’s campaign against local terror groups that sow terror in the community,” said Ltc Alvin C. Iyog, Commanding Officer, 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion.
1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade Commander Colonel Efren P. Baluyot said that this is another desperate move of the terror groups as their capability dwindles due to the neutralization of a number of their members, mostly were bomb makers, and the destruction of their bomb factory in the area. Their frustration is compounded by the surging number of concerned civilians supporting the anti-terrorism campaign of the unit.
“This success is a classic example of civil-military cooperation against terrorism. The public is enjoined to remain alert, vigilant and supportive to the authorities. I urge the civilian communities to report immediately suspicious individuals in their communities to thwart any form of terrorist initiated violence and prompt reporting to authorities of suspicious items for that matter,” said 6th Infantry Division Commander Major General Cirilito E. Sobejana.
