CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao – The local government Isulan in Sultan Kudarat turned over 29 loose firearms and 5 explosives to 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade through the effort of 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion this morning, May 7, 2019 at the town’s municipal gymnasium.

Isulan Mayor Marites Pallasigue led the ceremonial hand over of the firearms assisted by her ABC President Jacosalem Galmak to 1st Mechanized Infantry Brigade Commander Colonel Efren P. Baluyot.

The firearms and explosives, which came from the 17 barangays of the town, consisted 2 M79 grenade launchers, sixteen 12-gauge shotguns, one Ingram, 5 calibre 38 revolvers, one forty lite modified pistol, 2 calibre 45 pistols, 1 modified 7.62mm rifle, 1 rocket propelled grenade, 1 hand grenade, 1 rifle grenade, and three 40mm grenades.

Lieutenant Colonel Alvin G. Iyog, Commanding Officer 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion said that the turnover of firearms were part of their tireless effort in the continuing campaign against proliferation, which is one of the thrusts of Martial Law, and the strict implementation of election gun ban.

“We will continuously collaborate with the local government units and officials in our area of responsibility to strengthen our efforts to for the surrender of loose firearms especially during the election period,” Colonel Baluyot said.

Major General Cirilito E. Sobejana, Commander of 6th Infantry Division, commended the efforts of the troops and the municipal government of Isulan for the successful and peaceful surrender of firearms.

He also thanked the stakeholders for the continuing trust and support to the government troops that greatly contributed in the peace and development of the province.
