Military troops seized a high-powered firearm in a clearing operation launched in the town of Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat on January 26.
Soldiers of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion acted upon a report from a resident of Barangay Didtaraz in said town, yielding to the seizure of an M79 Grenade Launcher with ammunition belonging to Noel Agduma Macho.
Macho underwent a custodial debriefing facilitated by the troops. Soldiers turned him over to the police for disposition and filing of cases.
“The aggressive drive against unlicensed guns is in response to the campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte against criminality,” said Major General Cirilito Sobejana, the commander of the Joint Task Force Central.
“The pro-active measures we have been conducting through our clearing operations and the assistance of the communities preempted the terroristic activities of criminals and extremist groups,” he added.
Major General Sobejana commended Lieutenant Colonel Alvin Iyog, the commanding officer of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion, and the troops for the accomplishment in the campaign against the proliferation of loose firearms.
“We continue to work for the demilitarization of armed groups in Central Mindanao by sustaining our campaign against loose firearms and by intensifying our security operations on the ground. This recent accomplishment of the JTF Central all indicates that our campaign is on the right track,” said Lieutenant General Arnel Dela Vega, the commander of the Western Mindanao Command.
“As we sustain our momentum, we encourage the people of Maguindanao to take steps and to support our campaign to remove all tools and implements that propagate lawless violence in Mindanao,” he added.
