NAVAL STATION FELIX APOLINARIO, Panacan, Davao City (DWDD) – “Let us support the PNP and DOLE to implement Court Decisions. We should not allow chaos to reign in this labor dispute, and let us ensure the safety of everyone.”
This was the directive of Lt. Gen. Benjamin Madrigal Jr., AFP to the 10th Infantry “Agila” Division, in relation to the request of Department of Labor and Employment Region XI for peacekeeping assistance, after tensions erupted when the Kilusang Mayo Uno (KMU) prevented Banana Coop Laborers to work by establishing picket lines in different packing plant of a banana company at Barangay San Miguel, Compostela, Compostela Valley Province.
Accordingly, scuffles ensued at about 10:00 AM of October 11, 2018, when some of the KMU regional leaders from Davao City and personalities from the Radyo ni Juan confronted the laborers who are cooperative members wanting to continue working at the picket line established by KMU-affiliated protesters at the said Barangay. The incident was quickly pacified by PNP CVP.
The second incident took place at about 12:00 PM on October 11, 2018, when the laborers asked the KMU members to remove their placards and posters and to abandon their picket lines and allow the workers to peacefully enter their workplace.
“We are calling on all parties involved to respect each other’s rights and let us resolve issues peacefully. We will give our full support to DOLE and other concerned agencies to ensure that Legal orders are implemented and enforced in order to prevent chaos,” Lt. Gen. Madrigal Jr. warned. EASTMINCOM / MCAG
