3 alleged NPA rebels surrender in ComVal

From the Mindanao Times (Oct 16): 3 alleged NPA rebels surrender in ComVal

Three reported members of the New People's Army (NPA) surrendered to the 25th Infantry Battalion in Monkayo, Compostela Valley on Thursday last week.

Capt. Jerry Lamosao, spokesperson of 10th Infantry Division, said three NPAs under the Guerrilla Front 14, Northeastern Mindanao Regional Committee, brought three low-powered firearms to Lt. Col. Oscar Balignasay Jr., commander of the 25th IB.

Lamosao said they surrendered through the effort of Bravo Company of 25th IB under 1Lt. Desmond Castillo at their headquarters in Camp Kalaw, Barangay Poblacion in Monkayo.

He identified them only as alias Lito, 27, single, a member of Squad Uno, Abe, GF 14, NEMRC; alias Topher, 28 , single, team leader, Abe Segunda, Platoon Uno, GF 14; and alias Ros, 23, member of Abe, Segunda, all residents of Barangay Awao, Monkayo.

Accordingly, they surrendered one KG9 9mm Luger (serial number 974315) with one magazine; Norinco Cal .45 (SN 351826) with one magazine; and one Colt Defender Cal .45 pistol (SN 0919885) and magazine.

Lamosao said they surrendered due to hardship in the movement and constant fear for their lives.

"In their revelation, within their group exists corruption and abuses," he said. "The Supamil or Suporta sa Pamilya never happened also add to their dismay."

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Noel S. Clement, commander the 10th ID, commended the troops' accomplishment.

"We continue to accept NPAs who want to surrender. It is our hope that the remaining NPA terrorists will go back to the folds of the law and be with their families come Christmas season," Clement said.

"Christmas is worth celebrating seeing NPAs living in the mainstream with their families as they swear allegiance to the Philippine government and be productive citizens," he added.

The surrenderees are now undergoing interview and custodial debriefing at the headquarters of the 25th IB.
