FORT ANDRES BONIFACIO, Metro Manila (DWDD) – The new Commanding General, Major General Macairog S. Alberto, formally assumed command of the Philippine Army in a simple Change of Command and Retirement Ceremony at Fort Andres Bonifacio, Taguig City.
Major General Alberto who was the Chief of the Intelligence Service of the AFP (J-2) replaced Lieutenant General Rolando Joselito D. Bautista who just bowed out from the military service upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56
The new Commanding General is a member of PMA “Sinagtala” class of 1986. He is the 60th Commanding General of the Philippine Army. He is also a bemedalled officer who had spent most of his career serving as part of the Special Operations Forces and in the field of intelligence.
With the current trend in the Philippine security environment, Major General Alberto said, “I will endeavor to make the Philippine Army a more agile force, one that is prepared and able to meet current and emerging threats.”
The new Army Chief is yet to discuss his command thrust. However, during the assumption ceremony he expressed his commitment to develop the Army capabilities, organize and train soldiers both in active and reserve units, and look after the moral and welfare of the troops.
Moreover, with the Philippine Army gaining its momentum in its Army Transformation Roadmap, Major General Alberto expressed that he will continue to sustain the implementation of its ATR initiatives in order to meet its vision to be a world-class Army by 2028.
