From the Mindanao Times (Sep 24): Soldiers seize NPA arms cache
Authorities recovered high-powered firearms apparently left by fleeing rebels in Barangay Sibulan, Toril District on Thursday evening.
Lt. Col. Oscar Partuza, the commander of 3rd Infantry Battalion, told TIMES yesterday that they seized two M16 rifles, an AK47 rifle, an M653 rifle with attached M203, M203 ammunitions, magazines of AK47 with live ammunitions and two bandoleers.
Partuza believed the arm cache belongs to the Pulang Bagani Command 3 of the New People’s Army (NPA) whom the soldiers earlier engaged in a gunfight
He said the rebels probably left the firearms as they fled for safety during the Sept. 16 encounter in Barangay Baracatan, also in Toril District, where their commanding officer, Viva Albert Abenoa, alias Ka Ivy, was killed.
Partuza said they received a tip from local residents regarding the cache so they immediately conducted the operation. The recovered the firearms in Sitio Cabarisan at 11:30 p.m.
The recovered firearms and ammunitions were brought to 3rd IB headquarters for proper documentation.
