From the Philippine News Agency (Sep 23): Davao City Army brigade recruits 500 more CAFGUs
The Philippine Army’s 1003rd Brigade here will soon have 500 additional members of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit (CAFGUs), who are now undergoing a 45-day basic military training.
Brig. Gen. Ernesto Torres, commander of 1003rd brigade based in Barangay Mahayag Bunawan District, on Sunday said they will create four Army companies with 120 CAFGUs in each company.
After completing the training, Torres said the CAFGUs will be deployed to different troops covering Davao City and Talaingod in Davao del Norte, which are the areas of operation of the 1003rd Brigade.
"We are relentless in our efforts in getting much as security personnel as possible coming from the area because it has been very effective in Davao City," Torres said.
Torres said the 100rd Brigade has special CAFGUs funded by the city and were trained by the 1003rd brigade, recruited from different communities in Davao.
He said the additional forces will help the ground forces in conducting focused military operations and community support program in far-flung barangays.
Torres said the military troops have been conducting civil-military operation, community support program activities, focused military operation and recruitment of personnel.
“With these activities, we are optimistic that sooner we would be able to normalize the situation in the area," he added.
He said the military is taking special attention to Talaingod, which is still affected by communist insurgency.
