From the Sun Star-Zamboanga (Sep 25): Kidnapped Sulu public school teacher freed
THE public school teacher seized by suspected Abu Sayyaf bandits in the province of Sulu has been released following the reported payment of ransom, the police reported on Tuesday, September 25.
The police in Sulu said that the victim, Benjamin Ubaid, was freed around 6:30 p.m., Monday, September 24, in the village of Danag, Patikul two days after the Abu Sayyaf bandits seized the victim.
The police learned from Ubaid that he was seized by two suspected bandits around 2 p.m. Saturday at Sitio Godinez in the village of Latih, Patikul.
The police learned that Ubaid went to Sitio Godinez in the village of Latih as he attended the 100 days death prayer of his elder brother.
The police learned that the Abu Sayyaf bandits released Ubaid after his family paid P200,000. The original ransom demand was P1 million.
Ubaid is a teacher of Camp Andres Central Elementary School located in the village of Tubig Putih, Luuk municipality.
The police said Ubain, following his release, has immediately reunited with his family in the village of San Raymundo, Jolo.
