DWDD: UPROOTED | Marijuana plantation sites discovered anew in Kalinga

From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Mar 26): UPROOTED  |  Marijuana plantation sites discovered anew in Kalinga

CAMP MELCHOR F DELA CRUZ, Gamu, Isabela (DWDD) – Joint law enforcement forces discovered anew 15 marijuana plantation sites at Barangays Buscalan and Loccong both in Tinglayan, Kalinga around 7 AM on March 24, 2018.

The plantation sites of fully grown marijuana valued at Php 17 million were uprooted by the soldiers belonging to the 50th Infantry Battalion; agents and personnel of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Cagayan and Cordillera Region; and police officers from Tinglayan Municipal Police Station.

Just last Feb 11, of this year, authorities have also burned P14.5 million marijuana plants, dried leaves, seeds and marijuana powder at Brgy Chumanchil of the same municipality.

Meanwhile, MGen Perfecto M Rimando Jr, Commander, 5ID commended the troops, police and PDEA agents behind the success of the anti-marijuana operation. “The 5ID remained steadfast to its purpose of providing law enforcement support to our law enforcers in support of the anti-illegal drug campaign of our government,” MGen Rimando Jr said.

“The Communist NPA terrorists are also known maintaining and selling marijuana as one of their sources of finances to make their group afloat. In the absence of big businesses and mining as sources of their support in the area, selling marijuana has been one of their business,” MGen Rimando Jr, added.

If we recall, last July 2017, operating troops of the 54th Infantry Battalion, recovered several kilos of marijuana after they overrun a CNT camp in Brgy Dango, Tinoc, Ifugao. 5DPAO / MCAG
