NBHA, Sangley Point Cavite City (DWDD) – The Philippine Navy through the Naval Air Group (NAG) conducted Activation and Blessing Ceremony of the 2nd Beechcraft King Air C90 Aircraft on March 19, 2018. The ceremony was held at Headquarters Naval Air Group, Naval Base Heracleo Alano, Sangley Point, Cavite City with Rear Admiral Danilo R Rodelas AFP, Commander, Philippine Fleet as the Guest of Honor.
After completing the installation of its navigational equipment and paintings, the 2nd C90 aircraft is ready for operation. The activity was formally opened by Captain Juario C Marayag PN (GSC), Commander, Naval Air Group who emphasized the worthiness and usefulness of NV390 (C90 Aircraft) in maritime air surveillance which is vital in producing critical and sensitive information necessary for maritime situational awareness. The first C90 aircraft was activated last November 21, 2017 and made her maiden flight conducting Maritime Air Surveillance at Bajo De Masinloc on January 31, 2018 under the Operational Control of Northern Luzon Command.
The Guest of Honor, assisted by the Commander NAG headed the symbolic name revelation of the aircraft’s tail number: Naval Vessel (NV) 392. This was followed by the blessing of the aircraft by the Fleet Chaplain, Commander Alejo Simon A Araño CHS and the symbolic pouring of a bottle of wine on its nozzle by the Guest of Honor’s wife, Mrs Maya M Rodelas.
As part of his remarks, Rear Admiral Rodelas said that, “as we activate the 2nd C90 aircraft, it will bolster our surveillance capabilities as we patrol our vast sea lanes of communication and maritime borders. The threats that we face as a maritime nation, namely piracy, terrorism, border protection and even climate change dictates that we must be perpetually ready to address any contingency. In time, this aircraft will be deployed in areas of critical interest to our national security. The experiences that we as a navy will gain from the utilization of this aircraft will hopefully prepare us for a strong and credible navy that we all dream to be.”
With this milestone, the PN is indeed proceeding into a stronger and more credible Navy that the country will be proud of by 2020. NPAO / MCAG
