The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) recently acquired high-speed boats and patrol vessels from the government of Japan.

Three (3) 7-meter class fast boats - Rigid Hull Inflated Boats (RHIBs) were turned over to the PCG during its 116th Anniversary held at the PCG Headquarters in Manila.

Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Koji Haneda made the turn-over to Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade and National Security Adviser and Director-General of the National Security Council Gen. Hermogenes Esperon.

The Japanese and Philippine officials also led the commissioning ceremony of three (3) 44m class patrol vessels (Multi-Role Response Vessels: MRRVs).

During the ceremony, Ambassador Haneda recalled how President Rodrigo Duterte, in his recent state visit to Japan, said the two countries are entering a “Golden Age” of strategic partnership.

The Japanese official said he is looking forward to working with the Philippine government to further strengthen relations between the two countries.

The three newly commissioned patrol vessels named “Capones,” “Suluan,” and “Sindangan” are part of the ten (10) 44-meter class patrol vessels that were financed, designed, and built through Japanese government’s support.

The newly provided ships along with the coastal monitoring radars are part of the Official Development Assistance (ODA) of Japan and will be used to improve the country’s patrol, search and rescue, anti-terrorism, and law enforcement capabilities, according to PCG.
