DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Oct 20): UPDATE | Marawi Operations and the Neutralization of Dr Mahmoud
CAMP GEN EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City (DWDD) – “Our operations to flush out and deal with terrorist stragglers has been continuing relentlessly since yesterday. Last night’s operations has been very positive. We were able to neutralize 13 rebels and we confirmed this. Early this morning, we were able to get 7 more and rescued a mother and her daughter. She is about 15 or 16 years old. She has a splinter wound but out of danger.”
This was part of the statement made by AFP spokesperson MGen Restituto Padilla who said thaat the process of their operations sustained six wounded. But most of the soldiers who were wounded are safe since most of their wounds are superficial. In addition, the AFP is increasingly becoming confident that Mahmoud was among those who have been killed during the previous days’ operations.
Padilla added that the process to confirm this with finality, however, is still ongoing. Earlier information regarding this was received from the rescued hostages and they are now working on getting full confirmation.
In addition, hostages remaining in the area is estimated at around 20 or more. Troop morale remains very high and motivation to finish the fight is at its highest. AES/ALS
