DWDD: VIGILANCE | AFP guarding Lanao Lake vs Maute supporters

From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Aug 31): VIGILANCE  |  AFP guarding Lanao Lake vs Maute supporters

MINDANAO (DWDD) – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is tightly guarding the entire Lanao Lake against possible incursion of reinforcements by Maute sympathizers and to also block their escape.

According to Col Romeo Brawner, Deputy Commander of Joint Task Force Ranao, they have received reports that the Maute group is offering P50,000 to fishermen for the use of their boats to ferry Maute symphatizer into Marawi or to escape.

Recently, troops neutralized ten (10) Maute reinforcement trying to enter Marawi City through Lanao Lake.

The AFP is closely coordinating with Local Government Unit’s, specially the Mayors of the different towns around the lake, to make sure that the terrorist will not be able to secure any water crafts to take them in or out and/or re-supply their comrades in the main battle area.

Col Brawner added that there are strong indications that the Maute group within the conflict zone is running out of bullets and food supplies, that is why they are scouring the area for boats they could use.

The AFP is also confident that Maute leader’s, Omar and Abdullah Maute, and Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon is still within the main battle area, that is why they are tightening their cordon around the remaining stronghold of the terrorist to prevent their escape. AES / ALS
